GREAT EXPECTATIONS
New St. Louis Artist Jibbs, speaks on hit single “Chain Hang Low”.
Now that listening to the radio has become something that many hip-hop heads don’t look forward to, like taking a paternity test and monthly credit card statements, we are definitely due for some serious fire. Music needs something that floods every sound system and invades every household. With “Chain Hang Low,” Jibbs has started a fire across the country with nothing to stop him.
Laying rhymes at the tender age of eight, killing older cats with each bar, Jibbs is a young dude within his own category, never trying to be like anyone else. “I’m versatile. I ain’t afraid to change it up, he says. “Every song won’t sound the same.”
As an artist, it’s a challenge to create your own voice in a genre that has existed for so long. Jibbs assures us that he is different. “I’m mixed. I got a lil St. Louis style and my own style.”
Refreshingly, not a hard head and definitely not singing the same old, ‘I’m a thug’ tune, Jibbs stays in his own lane. “I wasn’t out terrorizing the neighborhood. I stayed out of trouble.” An impressive two-time Golden Glove champion, but even that couldn’t keep him out of the studio. “Music is what I love, and boxing is what I like.”
It’s no secret that people seem to love him too. “I didn’t expect the response that I’m getting from the fans. We have to leave some places a little earlier than planned”, he gushes.
On the new album, Jibbs wants us look forward to listening to whole songs. Coming up in the hood is the kind of song that speaks to kids and adults everywhere. “It’s a real song about life”, he says. “The message is to think before you do something. Be smart not dumb.”
Jibbs is exactly what music needs. He’s realistic. Jibbs is a teenager with a dream to be no one other than himself.
Though the industry has created many over night sensations and one hit wonders, Jibbs is in it for the long hall.
“My music is like water, it keeps on running.” The streets are tuned in lets hope he delivers a classic.
